ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The Lorance Thompson Negotiation Competition presents several unique opportunities and challenges for UHLC students. A negotiation team consists of two students who play the role of attorneys representing the interests of a client. Over several rounds during the one-day competition, teams are presented with fact patterns that include a summary of a client’s positions and interests. Teams are then given limited time to negotiate a deal with another team representing an opposing client. Each team has one week following the competition to draft a contract encapsulating the agreement struck in one of the sessions.
Teams receive points based on their ability to protect and secure their client’s interests in the deal that is struck between the teams in each round.
COURSE CREDIT & PRIZES
UHLC students can earn 1 hour of non-substantive competition credit by (1) making a good-faith effort in the Competition and (2) completing and timely submitting the writing assignment for the Competition that is described in the Competition Rules. Click here to complete a Competition Credit Petition.
The overall winning and runner-up teams for both the negotiation and contract drafting portions of the competition will receive a cash prize.
